Call for members: Two Spirit, trans and gender-diverse community advisory board
Northern Mosaic Network (NMN) is forming a community advisory board (CAB) to guide our advocacy on improving access to gender-affirming health care and other issues that impact Two Spirit, transgender, and gender diverse (2STGD) people in the Northwest Territories (NWT). The CAB aims to bring together 2STGD people with a diverse range of lived experiences who can provide guidance and feedback on NMN's current advocacy efforts, as well as help set priorities for future advocacy. The goal of the CAB is to create a platform that centres the perspectives the community members who are most impacted by these issues, which will help ensure that NMN's advocacy work is driven by the needs of 2STGD community members.
Note on language: 2STGD is an acronym for Two Spirit, transgender, and gender diverse. Here, we're using 2STGD as an umbrella term to refer to anyone who has a gender that is not cisgender, including people who are Two Spirit, transgender, non-binary, agender, genderqueer, and/or any other gender diverse identity.
We are currently accepting applications for up to 8 community advisory board members. Please complete the form linked above to express your interest in joining the board! Applications will remain open until August 31, 2026.
To be eligible to apply, you must:
be a member of the 2STGD community
be 19 or older
be a resident of the Northwest Territories*
*Exceptions may be made for NWT residents who are temporarily living outside of the NWT, for example students who are living in another province or territory to attend school.
**Please note that current NMN board members are not eligible to join the CAB.
Below, we've outlined some of the expectations for community advisory board members to give you an idea of what it would look like to be a board member and help you decide if you have the time and energy to commit to this project. To compensate CAB members for their contributions, members will be provided with an honoraria for each meeting they attend.
Expectations for CAB members:
So that we can remain transparent with, and accountable to, other community members, you must be comfortable being publicly affiliated with NMN and the CAB, and willing to disclose your connection to the 2STGD community
Be able to attend monthly online meetings (approx. 2-3 hours each) from October 2026 - March 2027 and be able to respond to emails on a regular basis*
Be able to let us know if your capacity to participate fluctuates and you need to miss a meeting, take a break from the CAB, or step down
*If participating in virtual meetings is a barrier for participation, please notify us in your application.
We recognize that the expectations for CAB members and other constraints may mean that participation will not be accessible to all community members. If you want to provide feedback about NMN's advocacy regarding issues that impact 2STGD people, but participating in the CAB is not accessible or a good fit for you, please reach to us about other ways that we can connect with you. NMN always welcomes feedback from our community members!
