New Workshops!

Over the last year, we have been creating new workshops on a wide range of topics! Some of these have come out of doing custom workshops for different organizations and schools across the territory. Check out some topics we have created workshops on below, a brief description of the content and who we intend these workshops to be delivered to.   • Duration: 50 mins

    For who? Youth in grades 7-12. In schools or from other providers.

    Description: This session is spent talking with students about different legislation present in the country that looks to protect 2SLGBTQIA+ people. This session is designed to equip students with the knowledge of what rights 2SLGBTQIA+ people have in the country and what avenues 2SLGBTQIA+ people can take in upholding those rights. This session looks at the school level, community level, territorial level and federal level to provide a well rounded understanding of the systems available to folks. While this initially looks at the legislative level, we then turn towards GSAs (gender and sexuality alliances) and how they provide interpersonal support within schools. We talk about the values of GSA, how to get involved with them and what we can do in a GSA.

  • Duration: 1 hour 20 mins

    For who? Youth in grades 7-12. In schools or from other providers.

    Description: This session looks to understand different ways to be an ally to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. We situate this session within an activity about our values, what’s important to us and how we live by those values. From here we talk about what harmful language looks like, how these impact 2SLGBTQIA+ people and, drawing on our values, we collaboratively find ways on how to be an ally within our school community and beyond.

  • Duration: 1 day

    For who? Playschools, teachers, organizations that work with families.

    Description: This workshop is designed for organizations who have inclusive practices embedded within their structures and are looking for different strategies on navigating hard conversations when it comes to 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion. This day long workshop is spent learning about how people learn gender and sexuality, how we learn these at young ages, various myths about 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, and how to talk about gender, sexuality and address these myths with parents, caregivers, and youth alike. We talk about why it is important to be inclusive from a perspective of future building, communities with shared values and analyzing what the stakes are when we aren’t inclusive within our organization’s practices.

    In the afternoon, we engage in multiple exercises focused on having hard conversations, looking through different tips on how to have these conversations before putting them into practice. We situate these tips and tactics into relevant situations in order to see what works best for your staff.

  • Duration: 1 day

    For who? Mental health services.

    Description: This workshop was built in collaboration with mental health services that are specifically run by 2SLGBTQIA+ folks. This workshop looks to provide a full understand of 2SLGBTQIA+ people and their experiences with the intent of providing deep, purposeful care for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks. This workshop explores the various mental health realities of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and provides various inclusive practices in order to navigate the stressors that 2SLGBTQIA+ folks experience.

  • Duration: 5 hours

    For who? All audiences.

    This workshop explores gender based violence and sexuality based violence from a 2SLGBTQIA+ perspective. We look at how systems of power impact the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and how homophobia, transphobia and various other forms of discrimination towards the 2SLGBTQIA+ community are rooted in gender norms and the enforcement of rigid perspectives.

  • Duration: 1 day

    For who? Nurse practitioners, doctors, healthcare workers.

    During this day long workshop, we look to explore what gender affirming care is and how it is life saving care for trans, 2-spirit and non-binary folks. We spend our day looking to see what care is available to offer at varying levels of experience in order to build confidence and capacity for folks to be able to offer this care to people.
